TRG MLADENACA 5

This elevated ground-floor house with an irregular floor plan in the shape of the Cyrillic letter “П” was likely built in the final decades of the 19th century.

It represents a distinguished example of mature historicism, although its architectural and stylistic integrity was disrupted by a late 20th-century addition, when another floor was constructed and the design of the original roof section was transferred to the new upper level.

At that time, the interior was adapted for the needs of the “Zvezda” Trading Company.

The façade is characterized by corner risalits—one on the left with a window, and one on the right with a carriage gate, both accentuated by semicircular pediments with floral pilasters. Between them runs a sequence of five windows, with alternating triangular and segmental pediments.

The original roof section featured a row of decorative brackets, while the risalits were crowned with two baroque-style curved gables and a taller, centrally positioned broken-contour gable. These elements were replicated on the newly added floor.

The wall surface is clad in yellow clinker brick, with a plinth treated in imitation stone blocks, while the carriage passage is adorned with floral and curvilinear ornaments.

The company Neostar a.d. Novi Sad is the legal successor to the Zvezda Trading Company, founded in Novi Sad in 1946. Over its 70 years of existence, the company grew successfully, expanding and integrating, and at one point employed over 1,000 workers. Zvezda was engaged in commercial trade. The company was privatized in 2005, when it changed its name to Neostar a.d. Novi Sad.

The core business of Neostar a.d. is the leasing of its own commercial office space. The company’s headquarters are located in downtown Novi Sad, at Trg Mladenaca no. 5, in this very building, which spans over 2,500 m², part of which is leased as office space to various business entities.
