FUTOŠKA 17 – ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING SCHOOL “MIHAJLO PUPIN”
The complex consists of two buildings constructed a decade apart, now functionally connected into a single educational unit.

One of the most monumental educational buildings in Novi Sad, today’s Electrical Engineering School “Mihajlo Pupin”, was purpose-built in 1912 to serve the needs of the Hungarian Catholic Gymnasium.

On the same plot, in the 1880s, stood the first City Hospital, designed by Terj Molnar, though it was positioned more centrally on the lot.

The new school occupied the majority of the available land, while the space between the wings was left for a courtyard and student sports activities.

The name of the architect has not been definitively established. Béla Peklo and Miksa Strobl (the author of the original sketches for the Jodna Spa) are mentioned in the literature. In 1912, Strobl submitted a request to the City Magistrate to inspect the plans, though the actual blueprints have not been preserved. It is assumed that Peklo either created one version of the design or was responsible solely for its execution.

The building has a Cyrillic “П”-shaped floor plan, with two long wings.

The main street façade is composed with three risalits, the central one being dominant and accentuated by a monumental entrance portal framed in rusticated stone.

The seventeen-window axis composition is further emphasized by masonry attics and shallow decorative stucco work on the parapet panels.

The risalits are marked with pilasters, and above the central section rises a powerful pyramidal dome.

The interior was designed to serve its educational purpose—with wide hallways, a series of classrooms, a central staircase, and a vestibule with columns and capitals.

On the courtyard façade of the central risalit, biforas stand out, possibly once decorated with stained glass, while above the entrance area, an attic level was built, featuring richly ornamented stucco window frames.

The second building, located at Školska Street No. 4, was constructed in 1921 as a purpose-built facility for the Construction Directorate.

It was designed by Juraj Nikolajevič Šreter, and built by engineer Konstantin Petrovič Parizo de la Valet.

This freestanding rectangular building features a prominent central section on the main façade and corner risalits with triangular pediments and oval openings.

The spatial layout includes rooms arranged in a row with wide corridors, while the vertical lines of the façade are accentuated by imitation stone blocks.
Today, these two buildings are connected and form the complex of the Electrical Engineering School “Mihajlo Pupin”, one of Novi Sad’s most important educational institutions.
