ANTONA ČEHOVA 4 – KULTURNA STANICA EDJSEG
On the site of today’s Anton Čehov Street, a representative building known as the “Shooting Range” or “Šištat” was constructed in 1890 to mark the centenary of the Shooting Association, the oldest civic organization in Novi Sad.

It was built according to a design by architect Georg Molnar, on the site where a wooden structure belonging to the association had previously stood.

The building is a raised-ground-floor pavilion-type structure, with a complex layout and articulated roof composition. Its architectural design reflects historicist style characteristics, while the façade is adorned with eclectic decorative elements.

The windows are tall and semicircularly arched, and the corner risalit features small biforas. The façade is embellished with profiled attics, framed windows with ornamental finishes, roof and dividing cornices, and columns treated in a rusticated imitation.

Interior and Function
The interior layout was designed to suit the building’s original purpose. At its center is a large hall, richly decorated and painted, flanked by two smaller halls that were used for sports activities. Surrounding the building is a courtyard, which once served as the venue for shooting competitions.

Over the course of its history, Edžeg has undergone changes in function, but it has remained a recognizable city landmark and a testament to civic life and association in late 19th-century Novi Sad.
